I wanted the light to shine over the kitchen sink where the glass lid is open at the top and bottom. Most of your options are like an inverted vase - just open the bottom to insert a lightbulb. A great heat sink for any type of light you're putting in there are the cheap LED lights you've spent so much on. Because of this, they have a much shorter lifespan - not even 10,000 hours or whatever they advertised. This design offers much better heat dissipation. They still won't get anywhere near the lifespan of cheap LEDs - they're notorious for burning out because they dissipate the heat generated by the LED - but they'll last longer. I will say that it looks a bit cheap when you look at it up close - I would pick a better one if I could find it - but it was good enough. I love that it creates a rainbow effect when the sun hits it.
