I bought this mainly for the lens hood and filter adapter as I have several 49mm filters from my previous film cameras. The kit also includes a 49mm UV filter. Lens hood and filter adapter fit very well. It was easy to install. To remove the factory ring from the lens, open the threads and attach the lens hood to the lens, you must firmly press the factory lens cap onto the lens and turn counterclockwise; This will loosen the distance ring. The hood and the filter adapter are included in the packaging together. Disconnect the hood from the filter adapter. Since it is a bayonet mount, firmly grasp the lens hood and slightly turn it counterclockwise while holding the filter adapter. Screw the filter adapter onto the lens, then screw the included filter (or your preferred filter) into the adapter. Then reattach the hood. Voila! It was pretty easy to install and I'm happy with the black finish against the silver camera lens. I don't think it detracts from the overall look of the camera. UPDATE: After over a year of use, I use this lens hood all the time. With it installed you won't be able to use the factory lens cap (no big deal as you should now have a UV filter on your lens). More importantly, it blocks some of the flash. So when you use this lens hood with flash you will see a shadow in your picture but I rarely use the built in flash and I usually think about removing the lens hood. As one reviewer said, it also obscures the view through the viewfinder a bit, although I don't find that to be a huge issue.
