I realize this is a functional item rather than a family heirloom and that's what I had in mind when I bought this shelf. I was looking for something the right size and shape to fit under our wall mounted TV that could hold all of our freaks and knick-knacks with plenty of room. We used to have a hope box that didn't fit very well and was too deep, sticking out of the wall more than I wanted. The dimensions of this stand seemed perfect and I liked the solid construction - the last thing I wanted was something made entirely of chipboard which would warp. It arrived in a big old box (sorry USPS courier) and arrived safe and sound. because it was securely packed. Montage wasn't that bad; The necessary Allen key was included in the delivery, the instructions were clear enough and could be carried out by one person. The fully assembled item is strong yet light enough to be easily moved. So let's talk about how it looks. First, the dimensions are perfect - it's not too tall, but it's big enough to have two shelves underneath. At 63 inches long, it fits perfectly under our TV and offers plenty of storage space while remaining unobtrusive on the wall. The build is nice - I like the look of the black iron in the frame and while I'm not a big fan of the big bolt ends that are visible from the outside, they're not very noticeable and I'm probably just picky. The top and middle shelves are laminate and, frankly, not very pretty to look at. They are very shiny and look like a fake. I think they would be much better with a less vibrant wood grain print and a lighter finish. We take a nice piece of wood to cover the top, one that's a bit larger to make it look like a standard countertop, and paint it ourselves. The shelves are fine the way they are, if they look really weird, can I just paint them black. The cat was dying for me to show her so snap some pics you see we have all the game consoles and charging stations, a router, an extra laptop, even a speaker and put it away to leave plenty of free space. Our previous arrangement was a mess so this is much more organized.
