I've had this ironing pad for about a week now and have used it about 5 times. I've found it to work just as well as any similar rug, although it does have a slight "wet wool" smell when using steam. This particular set comes with a protective film to protect any surface underneath the mat. Tried with and without protective film. Without a sheet, the surface warmed up a bit. He was fine. The carrying case also makes a good impression. I can actually fit my foldable wool lined cutting mat with protective pads in it! Overall I am very happy with this purchase!
