I have spot cleaned my carpets but never thought of cleaning them other than vacuuming. This is probably because I dislike carpets in general and would like to replace everything with a mix of hardwood and tile in the future. However. I have them for now and they should do their best while they're there. I decided to give this little guy a chance and I'm glad I did. It's very easy to use, lightweight and the handle folds down in case you can't store it in a small space. Mine will probably settle down in the garage when I'm done with it, and the lighter weight helps with that. I should add that although it is very small when empty, filling it with cleaning liquid makes it a bit heavier. heavier - probably a few pounds. I followed the instructions and used the cleaning solution that came with it. I was surprised how little solution was needed and the rest was water. That's good because it means the little bottle will last longer than you might expect. It says warm water, not very hot. Normal domestic hot water is around 120 degrees, which is below the advertised limit, so you'll probably be fine with hot tap water. If you are unsure, check with a thermometer. If it's much higher than 120, you still have to turn off the water heater because it could burn people. However, instant hot water is over 180 degrees, which is too hot. Do not use it or you will warp the plastic and cause all sorts of damage to the device. I was disappointed that it didn't heat the water as heated water becomes a very effective solvent even without a cleaning solution. The more expensive ones have that, but they're also heavier, so there's a trade-off. The suction power of this thing is fantastic. Essentially you sweep it across the area, hold the trigger to pump liquid back and forth, then release the trigger and do the same to suck up water. After that, it's still damp (it's not magic), but not soggy. I was a little disappointed with the results at first, but came back later when the area was completely dry and was very impressed. There are several cleaning solutions that Bissell offer so I ordered a few along with the Boost products to add. on existing solutions to make them better for specific tasks. They are very focused which makes the price more reasonable than it might seem at first glance and the ratings are usually very high so I look forward to working with them on large areas. One thing I didn't consider was how much pleasant smell the right carpet cleaning solution can create in a room. I love scents, so this appeals to me a lot. They make unscented solutions for people who don't like it. Emptying the recovery tank, which is located at the head of the machine, was very easy and latches securely. This whole machine has clearly been designed and refined to be as easy to use as possible, and they've succeeded in that. Aside from heating the water, the only thing I would wish for was a retractable cord rather than wrapping around the included poles. I had a vacuum with this a few years ago and it was great. No vacuum cleaner, unfortunately, just a retractable cord. ;-) Overall, this is a great way to start carpet cleaning. Sean Logue, 2017
