What I like most about this lightbar is that it is very thin and unobtrusive and I like the customizable colors which is very important to me. It took me a while to get used to the lack of a huge dome light I had for my fluorescent lights, but now that I've had it for a few weeks it looks really fantastic to me. And it's cool to work, so you don't need a fan, it's awesome, I used to have to turn on the fish light during the day when I wasn't home because the fan was very noisy, but I can turn it on anytime. I've written in many reviews that it's not bright enough, but I find the light level ideal for my 48" long, 20" deep tank (no plants). For a large aquarium, this may not be enough. But this is only for watching fish, if I had live plants I would probably need two of them to give them enough light. Flicker Effect - I suspect this issue is common to all LED bulbs, so it's not necessarily specific to this particular one. Article, but I find the flicker effect uncomfortable. Since the "flicker" is based on the movement of the water surface as the light passes through and mine moves a little, the flicker effect is more like a fast flicker of light. Unless I choose to stop disturbing the surface of my tank (highly unlikely), it's quite annoying. Luckily I've been fortunate to learn to ignore this and my fish don't seem to notice. Storm lighting effects are meaningless because they are nothing more than flashing colored lights. They scare my fish so I can't use them even if I wanted strobe lights in my tank. I didn't deduct a single star for this because I wasn't planning on using them anyway, but if I did I'd be really pissed about it. Now for the 2 stars - it has no controls other than the remote control and the remote control doesn't work! This is a huge problem! Even when I hold it within an inch of the IR sensor, it sometimes takes 50 button presses before it responds. It took me 10 minutes to turn it on when I first installed it because it didn't respond to the power button on the remote! Luckily after setting the colors and connecting to my timer I don't have to set it up again or it would be back by now. It could still be - I'm worried it will stop working and I don't want to buy a new one if that happens after it's too late to send it back. But first I'll try a new battery in case the one that came with it is defective. Edit: I replaced the remote battery with the second battery that came with the flashlight and the remote works much better. It should still be less than an inch from the sensor, but now the light responds 2 times out of 3 when I press the button - a huge improvement! Since a dead battery is easy to fix, I've raised my rating from two to four stars. I can't give 5 stars because the light itself doesn't have a switch and the remote control still doesn't work well. However, those issues aside, this light is fantastic and the price was quite cheap compared to similar products from other manufacturers.
