I needed an external monitor stand so I could tuck my laptop underneath to save desk space. I use a 16 inch laptop and when I'm at my desk I like to close the laptop and plug in a larger monitor. This was wide enough to fit my Surface Pro laptop underneath and had enough room for a large stand. My monitor came with it and I can also store my external keyboard underneath if I want to use my laptop.
