As long as you buy those impractical shades that just look unique and admit they're new, it's not a waste of money. They certainly get people talking, but not so much in terms of comfort and efficiency. First, the two tones of the "lens" will bother you - unless you deny it and are willing to believe strongly enough that somehow having a two different hue field of view is a good thing. Second, be prepared to switch them so that they actually cover your eyes: if you try to wear them without leaving room for your nose, you'll either wear them on the tip of your nose or peek out from under them. Compare my modified glasses photo to the product photo and you'll immediately see what I mean. The notch on the nose that you see in the product photo is not actually a notch. This is deceptive. Is it just a contoured piece of plastic that I think should make them comfortable? The area should be cut out completely so they sit squarely on your face. I used a dremel and sanded/polished the area for my nose. They fit more or less and look cool, but if I really needed sunglasses I wouldn't go for them.
