About a year ago my cat was diagnosed with diabetes. I switched vets about 6 months ago and the staff recommended that I put my kitten on an ultra low carb diet because many cats are better at healing or controlling their diabetes through their practice. It's been a bumpy but healthy journey for her since then. She started out with about 4 units but we had to stop her after the first few days. Poor thing had an episode of hypoglycemia, so we treated her with sugar syrup, as directed by the vet. Better high than low BS. During this time I fed her 2 packets a day and gave her treats every now and then. Over time, she stretched like her former self. She has lots of energy, her eyes/vision is clearer and her arthritis seems to have greatly reduced. I catch her on the kitchen table again. She dropped to 0.5 units while eating and appears to have found a new lease of life.
