upset. Multiple burns first day at the beach

I rarely write reviews but I have a feeling this might help someone. I've spent a lot of time researching sunscreens for my family and especially my kids as they spend more time outdoors. I've focused on the EWG ratings and reviews here. I ended up ordering two packs of this Thinksport ahead of our Florida beach vacation. I liked how the sunscreen looks after application. It doesn't feel too greasy like our previous sunscreen. It takes a bit more strength to rub in, but that doesn't really bother me. It also leaves a light white coating on the skin, again it's okay. However, it looks very white at the hairline or beard. It doesn't bother me on the beach, but it can be a problem in other conditions. Overall I was happy with the sunscreen until we went to the beach. We put on plenty of sunscreen and spent a few hours in the sea playing in the sand. We went and had lunch, applied generously and spent a few more hours at the beach. Both parents burned down, including the mother who did not go into the water. One of the two children had a minor burn, but they were very well tanned and already very dark from the summer camps they had attended. We never burned ourselves with our previous sunscreen (Coppertone Kids Tear Free) and applied the new sunscreen as usual. This sunscreen might need to be used more often than the label says, but we need something that works for kids who probably won't do it on their own without parents. After that first day we went out and bought a bottle of our previous sunscreen and Dad bought a long sleeve swim shirt. During the next two days on the beach we had no burns or burns aggravated. I wanted this Thinksport to be our sunshade but it just didn't work for the beach. I'll use what we have for less intense sun exposure, but I'll continue to look for a sunscreen without potentially harmful chemicals that offers the protection we need.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
