It was hard to figure out how much to spend on a mic for our launch podcast. Everyone says start small, you can always upgrade. Well my friends, I don't want to keep updating. That way you end up spending more. There are other places to save money, but your voice is a podcast. I've been reading reviews for weeks, you know what I found out, the people who write these reviews get a commission if you buy a mic through this link. What made me skeptical about how impartial they are? So I went to several guitar shops in my area and tested every mic they had in the shop. $40 mics all the way up to $5,000 mics. What I found is that you know who you hate right away. It depends on how the microphone reproduces your voice. I have consistently found AKG microphones to be the best for my voice. The sound is rich and warm without any adjustments. (Remember, I tested at a guitar shop, all the controls were the same, only the mic was different.) When I saw the price tags, I had a bit of a heart attack. Then I thought about the needs of my studio. So I mentally checked the budget and decided that I would rather spend money on a microphone as that is the most important piece of equipment for a podcast. I couldn't be happier. It is well made and should last me for many years. If I need to buy another mic, it will be for more presenters on the show, not to replace this one.
