I bought this phone holder because nothing else fits my Microsoft Lumia 950. Since the buttons are all along the right side, a phone holder that grips the sides was out of the question. I found this pretty cheap when I was looking, so I decided to give it a try and I'm happy with the result! First, the build quality: it's excellent. This product is very durable. The adjustable arm is difficult to bend, but easily bends, allowing it to easily handle heavy phones and many cycles of use without the need for readjustment. The phone mount itself is well rubberized and the ball mount that attaches the swing arm is very secure and easy to tighten while still allowing for a different range of adjustment. The two spring-loaded arms also move independently, which is a good thing as it allows for more versatile phone mounts, meaning you can lean one corner against the car's A-pillar, while the other can be easily extended and mounted on phones of any size. The suction cup is also very durable, and the instructions are meticulous enough to remind the user to clean the suction cup and contact surface to extend the life of the product. Now for ease of use. I find the product very easy to use. As far as I can tell it's only supposed to stick to glass and other smooth surfaces, so I placed mine on the right side of the handlebars to keep it out of the way and reduce the loss of sight. I bent the articulating arm into a blunt V shape and pressed the flex against the dash and the suction cup very deeply against the glass. This way, when I apply pressure, my hand turns to the dashboard instead of the suction cup on the glass, which makes the device more secure on heavy devices like my Lumia 950 and my girlfriend's Oneplus One. Since it's protected from corners, Android and Windows Phone users (the few of you, oops!) won't have any issues for the most part. I believe the Sony Xperia Z3 has the power button in the right corner so it should work, but other phones with the button in the left corner will have issues. This device is symmetrical about the origin (its center), which means that no matter how you rotate your device to adjust it, the same corners stay closed unless you rotate your device the other way, and what's the sense of it? My Lumia 950 has the AUX port in the left corner, which means I can't plug it in while using the mount, but I have Bluetooth in one car and no AUX capability in the other, so I'm fine with that. As for the phone, one useful thing about this phone mount is that the camera stays pretty open on most phones, meaning you can use a dash cam app of sorts to record videos while driving. I don't know if there is such an app, but this phone mount lets you use it. Possible improvements. There are definitely ways to improve this phone mount. If there was a way to 'mirror' the corners about the X axis so that opposite corners were covered, it would increase phone mount compatibility as you could change which corner is covered and hopefully interference with buttons or avoid connections. It would also help if the retraction method worked the same as iOttie's and the arms could be extended to varying degrees with two pins on the side of the device and then the phone pressed against the center of the phone mount to cause the spring springs . take your hands away If it weren't for that, soft retractable arms with the same grip force (spring rate I guess) would be nice as it would reduce the fatigue that sometimes occurs when you insert one corner of a phone into the cradle and then pull out the other. Lever to secure opposite corner in bracket. A gently retracting lever would have made this easier, albeit more difficult and expensive, as is the case with the iOttie. As I said in this review, the only snag I get with this mount on my phone is that the AUX port is covered. would not be covered. I can drill the slot for the AUX cable myself. I also mentioned that the device is designed for smooth, flat surfaces like a car windshield. It would be nice if ipow just included a cheap plastic disc with adhesive backing that could be taped to the dashboard so the phone mount could be attached to the plastic disc on the dashboard instead of the windshield, which would help those who don't have one have more good vision.
