Bought these to wear under dresses as teachers seem to get annoyed with the flare in their knickers (but remember the boys pants are hanging off their bums for you to see may be that their underpants don't seem offensive). We wanted something with a shorter inseam as the ones we currently have are long enough to occasionally peek under the hem of the dress. Medium (7/8) fits well for a child who is 48 inches tall, has a 23.5 inch waist and weighs 50 pounds, but leaves some room for growth/stretching. I only took off one star because 1) the packaging is annoying and I accidentally cut some fabric trying to cut them off the hangers since they were attached so tightly and 2) the navy blue ones are a bit see through. The pink ones don't seem too bad, but maybe it's just a little pattern on the fabric that makes it less noticeable than solid colors. UPDATE: 16 months later and they still fit my baby perfectly. They still fit since she's taller, but haven't really gotten any wider, and they don't wear off much from wear or washing, although she probably wears a few pairs every week. She sometimes wears them with a t-shirt to gymnastics, so while they're a bit thin, they're not so much that I'm concerned.
