My cats started scratching my $300 rug when stretched out, which wasn't cool. I bought 2 of these, 1 of each size. I put the big one in front of the door, the smaller one on the carpet. They haven't scratched my carpet since, great investment and easy fix for scratches. If you're having trouble getting your cat to scratch your mat, catnip or Silvervine spray may help. My only issue is that they don't go up a size, I'd like a regular mat size rug, maybe I'll look for another brand that's bigger and hope it's just as good.
