It is better to remove manually.
This machine was not as efficient as I had hoped. It works better with powder based products but I still had to clean my brushes at least 2 or 3 times to get them completely clear. This gave my eyeshadow brushes an odd shape and I had to wet the brush to get it back into shape, which defeats the purpose as it should also dry out my brushes. Don't waste time with cream or liquid cosmetics. I have different detergents and such. I stick with my time-consuming manual makeup brush cleaner because it gets the job done.
