VOX does not work well.

I am amazed by these positive reviews. This is my THIRD baby monitor in two years. I usually buy them from Revain for $50-$55 and they last about a year. This model is more expensive and I was hoping I wouldn't have to change it as often. At first I thought it was great. It was easy to set up and I could clearly see and hear my daughter on the monitor. You have two options: 1) Normal mode means the monitor is ALWAYS on. A very bright picture lasts all night and all day and you can hear everything clearly. Wonderful. except for a very bright monitor when trying to sleep. 2) VOX mode: This means that both picture and sound are muted when no sound is detected. You can adjust the sensitivity: low, medium high. It doesn't matter: neither a low sensitivity seems to work, nor does a high one. Since I don't like a bright monitor next to me when sleeping, I chose the VOX mode. For the first week I thought everything was fine and threw the box away. I came to Amazon to ask a question: can I turn on the sound but there is no picture? Nobody answered, but I assumed the answer was no. When my daughter cried, the sound and picture turned on. I thought it was working correctly. Until I realized that it takes LOTS of NOISE to turn on this monitor. When my daughter sits up in her crib and literally starts jumping and playing with her animals until she screams LOUD, there is no picture AND no sound. Many times I've woken up in the middle of the night (over the past few weeks) and turned on our secondary monitor (Wi-Fi/connected to our phones) to find my daughter sitting and TALKING to herself. I manually turn on THIS baby monitor and sure enough it buzzes. Why isn't a murmur enough to turn the picture back on? As mentioned, I adjusted the sensitivity mode and it doesn't matter. I tested this when my husband and daughter were playing in their room. VOX mode is on (so the camera is black and silent) and I can hear them talking and playing from downstairs. The monitor does not turn on for several minutes. When turned on, it will turn off randomly even if they are still talking and playing. I don't know if I have a defective one, but other than that it seems to work. Since I threw the box away and can't return it (which I deeply regret), I will place an empty tissue box ABOVE the monitor at night so I don't have to see the annoying bright screen, but at least I can hear the noise. I hate the fact that I can't turn on the sound and turn off the picture. Even if the picture didn't turn on when there was noise in her room, I could turn it on manually if I could HEAR her at all. For me, that was a very costly mistake.
