I ordered this to connect my Wii to an HDMI switcher. I used to use an HDMI dongle that plugged into the back of my original system. It had no external power source. I think it was too much and ended up messing up the video on my original Wii. I am currently using a used Wii. This device is externally powered and can hold any component (although I only tested my Wii). Some devices I've used have attempted to upscale the video signal and ended up distorting the source's 4:3 aspect ratio. It looks like this device is leaving resolution alone, so you haven't stretched a 4:3 image to 16:9. This allowed me to switch the display mode on my TV between different aspect ratios and zoom levels. The previous device I tried didn't let me do this. I've also seen other devices make the video signal much darker. So the original colors remain as they are and look great. Despite this switch to HDMI and subsequent upscaling by my television, I could not detect any input lag either. At first I thought it was a sound problem. It sounded distorted like it had been boosted too much and eventually ended up clipping. It ended up having something to do with other aspects of my sound setup. I replaced some elements for other reasons and now the sound is crystal clear. Customer service was very helpful when I was dealing with this issue.
