At one point my college age daughter lost the original AC adapter for her Surface 3 (non Pro). Instead, she tried a large phone charger (10W, 5V, 2A), but found that it barely matched the Surface 3 when on and charged slowly when off. In addition, the power supply gets very hot. Fearing long-term damage to the Surface, I started looking for a suitable replacement. This device looks and behaves exactly like the original. It feels just as solid (especially where the cord exits the outlet) and even mirrors the matte black finish. When it's on and plugged in, an indicator light on the cord will illuminate to indicate it's supplying power or charging the device. Also, the Surface 3 charges while you use it. Aside from the lack of an official Microsoft logo, this is a fantastic replacement.
