Beautiful lightweight shelves, square and regular. Well made and inexpensive. Definitely worth the purchase price. I applied several coats of Real Milk Dark Half Tung oil to it. They soaked it up like a sponge and looked pretty decent. Two weeks of curing are enough for gentle use with Dark Half. Installed a shelf under the kitchen board measuring 24" x 36" for storing liquid chalk markers. I used spikes in rivets instead of pre-drilled holes. These pre-drilled holes are 16" apart on center and are bolt worthy by the way. After a few more weeks of tung oil hardening, it should be good for holding soft chalk and erasers. Later I can cover it with a coat of shellac or varnish. This wood resists almost any additional finish, mineral oil, shellac, varnish, you name it. I used Tung because I wasn't in a hurry and was already working on several other woodworks. Very light pre-grind at 320, I polished the second coat at 1200, no additional sanding between coats. Your mileage may vary based on preference. For an inexpensive but well made little shelf they are well covered and have an edgy look. Such a shelf is easy to make yourself, but it's worth it. Happy with this purchase.
