I bought them for long walks in extreme weather, high winds and sleet and sub-zero temperatures. Haven't been able to test them yet as the week of December they arrived was incredibly warm, but having them inside had my hands sweating in less than two minutes. While I was hoping for more dexterity, these mittens are easy to put on and take off even with gloves on. Update: I was able to test these gloves in deep snow and cold after the last ice storm. They work very well when I use my hands as a shovel with these gloves on the outside soaked leaves, but the melted snow didn't seep through the outer shell, the grip reinforcement plates held up even when wet and covered in ice, and my hands stayed quietly warm for a few hours of manual snow and ice removal
