I wanted a solid underwater/beach camera for my trip to Hawaii and didn't want to spend a lot of money. I used to use a cheap used 5MP camera in an underwater housing. It worked great but the sand and salt ruined the camera. I decided to try this camera. The first was broken. I sent it back to Fujifilm for warranty repair. To their credit, they just swapped out the camera. Pros: Small and easy to carry. I like the button mapping. Easy to learn and gets you there quickly. The videos were clear and made to capture some of my kids and nieces fun underwater moments. Remember to pre-focus before recording a video. Focus on something in the distance and keep a relative distance from the subject and you'll be fine. Beach videos are crisp with good audio capture. Videos of us snorkeling in the deep water at Lanai and Pupukea on Oahu were fantastic for this camera's small lens. Cons: You have to add a flotation device on your wrist. I found a nice bright orange that works. Read reviews carefully; There are those that look similar but aren't buoyant enough to hold it. I found this on E-bay from an Australian seller. Also the wrist strap got in the way while kayaking. He keeps hitting the side of the kayak. I was afraid it would damage the camera or break it. You also need to add a neck strap. Such a camera must be quickly and easily accessible to take pictures without worrying about the surroundings. Too heavy to keep in your pocket while kayaking. In bright light, the screen is almost unusable. A few years ago I had an old Minolta 35mm underwater camera. It was light yellow in color, floated, and had a tether on the target. Would love to see something similar to set up the camera for what you're shooting. I would like a dedicated button to switch between underwater and surface recording modes. This is a menu choice, but being an underwater camera it would be handy to be able to toggle back and forth directly. Note: I rinse the chamber very thoroughly before opening the bottom. But on one beach (Kailua) the sand is very fine. It looks like something got stuck in the slider under the cover. I hear a crunching noise I've never heard before. I hope this does not affect the waterproofing of the camera.
