Worked for the first year but had trouble with a pair of cords

Last year we bought six boxes of lamps which seemed to work well. When they were tested this year, there were no lights in several places. When trying to fix the headlights, it turned out that these two filaments were either made incorrectly or brought back when someone changed the bulbs. I will describe the problems and you are the judge. Among the many problems with these two strands next to the unlit lights (the other four strands don't have any of these problems): 1) The standard light sequence, red-blue-yellow-orange-green (repeated) doesn't always follow. Sometimes there would be a pair of the same color in a five-color sequence, with at least one color missing (usually green or blue). Well it's possible that towards the end of the production of this light kit the manufacturer got sloppy (I see they are no longer available) but due to other issues I don't think that's the case. 2) After removing some of the lights from the cords I noticed that the bulb sockets are not the same as the replacement bulbs. I checked the other working cords and they match the spare bulbs (always red and yellow - ugh). There is said to be a notch in the center of the holder stem that is missing except being wider than the other lamp holders. Scattered across the chain were orange or yellow lights, arranged in the order that green or blue lights would normally be. 3) Further testing revealed some other issues. Some of the blue and green lightbulbs weren't rendered very well, like the blue and green ones. When disassembling these bulbs, I found amber LEDs inserted into the bulb sockets. They also don't look like replacements that have a small resistance in the lamp cord. They had no resistance. 4) On these two chains, several of the lugs that secure the lamp socket to the socket were broken and missing. There were *MANY* without bars. I find it hard to believe the manufacturer made this. My guess is that someone bought these (and possibly other) boxes of bulbs, removed the needed bulbs that don't usually have a spare, like the green and blue ones, and plugged in the bulbs they removed. from other strings they had (e.g. yellow and orange) in these strings. In some cases, they've physically removed the internal LED lights and redesigned the bulbs to have "working" lights in case someone checks the strings upon their return. They then returned the strings for a refund. For us, this is a *BAD* buying experience in 17 years of using Revain. If I could buy a replacement I probably would. But it appears to be a discontinued set that has been replaced with a more efficient set that contains purple. Violet?!

Pros
  • Stable results when tested
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
