Review on NexiGo 2021 4K Portable Monitor Computer 15.56", 3840X2160P, HD by Paul Tyson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Compared to other portable monitors, this one has great value.

EDIT: Some serious issues. The thing has an insanely high power consumption. It draws 2.5A of current from a standard 5V USB charger. It will start to dim and flicker when there is a lack of power. Most basic chargers are rated at 2A. It also doesn't work with QC chargers. The only power source that seems to work for me is the USB PD charger. It might work better if you use it with a Thunderbolt connection, but it will likely ruin battery life if you try to use it with a laptop. The speakers hum. Sound. It's situational, I think it happens when you're playing silent audio, for example when you're sending audio, but it's all zeros. The screen is not symmetrical, the right side of the frame is wider than the left. There are also a lot of gaps in the panel if you look closely. I can't expect much durability from that. END EDIT This is a factory repaired unit. At the time of writing, it's hard to find a 4K portable display for under $200 from Revain. As it was being renovated this was within budget. I understand why the previous owner returned it and it doesn't bother me so I keep my ban. Screen is ok, no scratches or dead pixels. There were a lot of cables. The screen is matte, which is good! There is a cover if you are afraid of scratching it. The aspect ratio is 16:9 which surprised me as it has a wider screen than all my other devices. It uses mini HDMI instead of full-size HDMI. The description says so, but it's not very noticeable, so I was surprised. For context, I'm using this screen for a Raspberry Pi MagicMirror2 photo frame project. I don't play that thing. In the factory settings, the contrast was low. After increasing the contrast via the settings menu, everything looked normal in the front view. Contrast really drops off at extreme viewing angles. Brightness is ok. Unlike LUTs, each individual RGB color channel is configurable. I don't think my monitor calibrator will work with the Raspberry Pi, so tweaking the display yourself is welcome. The FAQ in the user manual is sort of an BS, it blames your cable for a bunch of things they shouldn't be. There are also HDR and Freesync options in the OSD, but none of these features are mentioned in the product description.

Pros
  • Excellent in every way!
Cons
  • I sent it back because it didn't work and they refused to refund my money.
