Update: Mini doesn't have much room to move lava balls and the balls don't get very big. A larger lamp would be a better choice. Of course there are colder lamps. We bought an aurora borealis from another store for our second child and it's probably the coolest lava lamp ever. "It's been many years since I've had one. This time for my children. It takes a long time to heat up enough to move and the base gets very hot. I think if I remembered those important details I would wait a few more years before giving them to the kids. But everything arrived in perfect condition - nothing broke. Sure, it's pretty cool, you just can't let young hands touch it or leave it on for too long.
