I didn't know how to use union nuts. The instructions weren't very clear on how to use them. So for step 3 I screwed the 1st nut onto the stem and then the union nut (the long one). I screwed it (long nut) until I saw the end of the rod was visible. Then I put another short nut on top of the other bar and lined up the two ends of the bar. Then we begin to unscrew the long nut, screwing another rod into it. Use the tool provided to tighten and loosen the long nut. Continue until the ends are evenly distributed between the short nut and the shank. See Figure 3. The yellow line indicates the measurement range. When installing fabric spacers, remember that the rods must be in the slings. The image marked "4" indicates which direction the padding goes. . After steps 3 and 4, installation was a breeze. Ha!
