So I installed this thing on the coffee table in the living room at 0°. I plugged it in and the sound turned on automatically. Some of the sounds aren't actually that bad, but they seem to have a slightly different volume for everyone, but you can tweak that. Also, some of them have fairly short, noticeable cycles, which is annoying. By the way, the sounds of the ocean and the seagulls are harrowing, and they do it every 6 seconds. There's no chance you'll fall asleep with it on. The additional audio cable does not work with newer iPhones. It's one of those old headphone cables. Brightness is good, colors and waves are beautiful. However, when I started with 0° tilt, the movement was very jerky and I thought I'd just bring it back because of that. Wasn't smooth and reassuring. But when I changed the angle a bit, it smoothed out and works fine now. Changing the angle is a bit intimidating because it looks like you're going to break the thing in half. It has seven different color/wave settings, six of which are really good and the seventh flashes painfully. Maybe great for a techno party. I wish there was a setting for plain red, but there isn't. Just blue or green. I would also like blue/green. The only combination of two colors is blue/red, which is very nice. All 3 colors mixed are pretty cool and match different patterns. A beep sounds when you switch between the seven wave settings. You can turn this off by removing the volume button entirely. Also, you can either have wave motions or with some settings immobilize the waves (pause button). In some of the other Wave settings, if you press the pause button, it turns into a slideshow. Pretty fun to play. It seems that there is no way to adjust the brightness at all. It doesn't matter as the brightness seems correct in a dark room. From the height of my coffee table, it appears to completely cover a ceiling of about 15 square feet. The remote feels responsive and you don't have to point it at the device. The remote control works even at a distance of at least 20 feet. Two AAA batteries are not included. The device also has several control buttons. A clear hum can be heard due to the movement of the light bulbs in the device. Some Wave settings are slightly louder than others. As long as it's not a violation. It's pretty quiet. Although I think it will only get worse over time. Some of those buzzing noises are actually oddly soothing. Some are just annoying. Overall this is what I wanted and expected. Great toy for $20. Five stars because of the price. Let's see how long this lasts!
