Great price in a very good tent

**Updated August 24, 2021 Camp on a variety of soils, from fairly typical "hard soil" to hard rocky soil that defied the stakes of my tent braved, to the soft and porous volcanic soil (don't know what else to call it) of Craters of the Moon National Park. So that leads to my only complaint about this tent. relatively short aluminum Y-pillars that came with it. I've already broken off two or three heads, aluminum doesn't seem to be of the highest quality. Luckily I bought some longer Coghlan 9 "Y" posts and Coghlan 7" steel hook posts from Walmart before I went on the trip. The latter helped me set up my tent and trail on hard, rocky ground, while still managing to break the head of one of the longer Y-shaped stakes when trying to drive it into the ground. So I was wondering if I could find a better stance and I found some 7" aluminum pegs with MSR hooks at the Ketchum outdoor gear store that worked great and also here at Revain at https://www. amazon.com/MSR-Hook-Stakes-Kit-6-Pack/dp/B019F2QS68. No matter how often I use these inserts I could very well buy an extra set and possibly the highly rated MSR Groundhog inserts. Prices I haven't used but a couple of times the cheap ones from Walmart have served me reasonably well but I think an even stronger steel pin would be a wiser choice if you expect very hard rocky ground. Apart from the prices I find this FE Active tent very happy with it and so far without any problems, but I will also note that I have not yet encountered any showers during my trip. So my impression is based on usability and design, spaciousness, ease of installation, and also that the zippers and materials used seem to be of good quality. Inexpensive tent. **** I'm not an active camper and haven't camped in many years, but on my upcoming trip I'm looking forward to several campsites along the way to reduce my travel expenses Supporting some photography/astrophotography adventures. Although it was just myself, I preferred to buy a tent that could easily accommodate two people with enough gear inside the tent, or if the vestibule size was large enough, at least provided good shelter for gear outside the tent. I particularly liked this FE Active Grindvik tent, which wasn't the usual 7x7 feet. ground but larger almost 8x7 feet. a floor that allowed for a slightly more sense of detachment from the sides of the tent while sleeping. The 52-inch height is good too, considering many of them are 48 inches or less. Assembly and disassembly are easy, but not fast. At least not for me yet. Fast enough, although there are no complaints about it. But to make installing the dome easier, I have a tip: there are tie-down straps that go around the support poles that actually need to be tied. I prefer clips or velcro for this purpose so I decided to cut four 3 inch strips from Velcro One Wrap and then tie the canopy straps to them. Then when it comes time to attach the canopy to the support poles, it's super easy to attach by simply wrapping One Wrap strips around each pole, with no tying required. a suitable one is offered by FE Active. So I bought a 95" x 83" Redcamp footprint for $20 for this purpose and it goes perfectly with this tent. Guys for the center loops on the sides of the canopy, apparently the manufacturer just expects you to mount them straight. But I prefer guy lines to pull the canopy tightly from the tent for better airflow I made with paracord and some very useful aluminum cord adjusters (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VGBHYJL) which I also add to the Added existing guy wires the quickest setup and adjustment, and made 4 more of these guy wires to tie the shutters in a tight, open position, although I'm not sure how useful I'll find that.

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • Not the best
