This is NOT a soft bristle brush. If you have gum problems, you'll need a softer brush unless you learn how to use it CAREFULLY, which means DO NOT grab the brush like you're using it to clean a toilet. Get a soft touch and be gentle. It is extremely effective and I LOVE ionic toothbrushes having been using them for over 20 years. This particular brush is compared to other hand brushes sold under the Dr. Tung, Hy-g, Kiss-you, in all the different spellings, is so much better ONLY because it produces more ions. This works on a 12v battery and lights up as soon as you use it. Your finger MUST touch the metal plate to make the connection and create the ions. Other brushes (all I mentioned) use a 3.7V battery to generate ions which are NOT comparable to this brush in terms of ion count. With other brushes you can buy super soft bristles which you don't get here (ebay, fluor supersoft). I think this is a great brush and I will use it. Although I really wish it was softer. If it were softer I would give 20 stars!
