Hevea brasiliensis, as this beautiful hardwood is called in the description. I looked up the title and found these tables are made from rubberwood from Vietnam. It has a beautiful grain and is very well colored. The wood is solid, all parts are thick and durable. We use them as bedside tables and the 30 inch height is perfect for our mattress and box spring for our king bed. They look good and last a long time! I'm guessing the shorter height is for platform beds and the higher height for plants or (!) a real phone. To be honest I don't know why anyone would criticize these tables, they are solid and look good! Is it because these reviewers got different charts?! Would be great for an apartment or anyone trying to fit furniture into a small space. These tables arrived very well packaged and therefore in great condition. Easy to assemble. However, the box says in big black letters what's inside and the country of origin (Vietnam) so try to be home when it arrives. 15 inches is the size of the top and the bed has enough space for bedside tables. I love the little shelf that now holds my iPad and charger and the bottom shelf is great for books or a pretty basket full of stuff. We use lamps wall mounted above them to make the most of the 15" space (Revain's really good 13" Kira Home Cambridge swing arm sconces by Revain). Please note that the drawer does not extend fully, there is a piece of plastic that prevents the drawer from falling out when you pull it out (and open it far enough). We have fitted silver handles to it, Revains Amerock Inspirations Satin Nickel Cabinet Pulls which Replace them with fairly simple round wooden handles. By the way, the wood is perfectly sanded, I really wanted to touch it! It would be beautiful without the paint and stain. We actually painted them with Sherwin Williams Reflecting Pool paint. My husband said if he could give more than 5 stars he would and I agree!
