Samsung and Sandisk are the best manufacturers of reliable, dependable and durable Micro SD card. However, the performance and speed of micro SD cards from all manufacturers may vary depending on the model purchased. UNFORTUNATELY, the sheer number of different Micro SD models confuses many consumers. Here is a list of Samsung Micro SD models and their merits: 1. EVO: This is an economy model. Like all Samsung cards, reliable and of high quality. But its read and write speeds are the slowest of any model at 48MB/s (and at least 30% slower in actual use). It's also not as "weatherproof" as more expensive models. However, the EVO is ideal for using a smartphone's external SD card to store files such as photos, documents, videos and system backups. EVO is the best quality micro SD at an affordable price. EVO PLUS (aka EVO SELECT): This is Samsung's mid-range micro SD. Its speed is rated at up to 80MB/s. Based on my own real-world testing, read speeds consistently drop to 70MB/s, about 40% faster than a regular EVO. However, the write speed is not much better than the EVO. Also, the Evo Select card (aka Plus) is more resilient to adverse environmental conditions, making it the best choice if the card is often used outdoors (e.g. in a smartphone). PERSONALLY I bought the EVO PLUS to use as my Note 4's external SD card to store photos and music. I needed a faster reading speed as I access music files frequently. (For storage used primarily as "archive", a regular EVO will suffice.) 3. PRO: Claimed read/write speeds are "up to 90MB/s read and 80MB/s write". I've previously purchased a 32GB PRO card and the actual speeds are more like a low 80s read and an average 70s write, which is pretty decent for a micro SD card. PRO is best suited for those who regularly record videos with their smartphone and store the "camera" on an external micro SD card. Faster write speeds ensure smoother transfer of video footage to "storage".4. PRO PLUS (aka PRO SELECT): This is a Micro SD PREMIER card with read speeds up to 95MB/s and write speeds up to 90MB/s. My real-world testing showed actual read speeds in the mid-80s and write speeds in the 70-80 range (which is excellent for a micro SD card). I personally bought the PRO PLUS for my Note 7 to record Ultra HD videos and that is the only reason I bought this card. The Pro Plus' fast read/write speeds are best suited for 4K and 3D video recording. PRO PLUS (or SELECT) is overkill for most regular users. CONCLUSION: EVO PLUS/SELECT – Excellent value for money for a mid-range micro SD card Samsung's EVO PLUS/SELECT offers the best compromise between cost and performance. Not the fastest microSD card from Samsung, but not the most expensive Samsung card either. Evo Plus (Select) is the best choice for most consumers (who don't shoot videos often). NOTE: Samsung vs Sandisk. In my opinion, Samsung and Sandisk are the best manufacturers for reliable and high-quality micro SD cards. In fact, I find very few differences between the two brands. HOWEVER, I prefer Samsung Micro SD for use in Samsung mobile devices. Whereas I prefer Sandisk for non-Samsung mobile devices like LG.
