I got these to help with De Quervain Syndrome, a type of wrist tendonitis that mainly affects the thumb joint. I have other items, like a bracelet for the night, but it's awkward and uncomfortable to wear all day. I also have a copper half finger compression splint but I don't feel much compression. When this package first arrived I was a little confused by the material. Despite being nylon, it's much thicker than a lightweight copper compression bandage, which reminds me of the woolen gloves I wore in cold weather as a kid. But after some work I got used to it. I have big hands, although thinner, not fat. It fits well and seems to reduce swelling. The gel pad at the base of the thumb is unobtrusive and offers additional protection. They go further down behind the wrist than I need so I bent it back towards the wrist which is also good for inflammation.
