Did you know VELCRO was designed by accident? Well, not really a mistake. It was designed by George de Mestral. He seemed to want to create a product that would work like burdock, sticking to his clothes and his dog's fur. That was in 1941. After that he tried and tried to find something that could mimic those drills. In 1955 he took out a $150,000 loan and managed to develop a viable product. The VELCRO line came loose and immediately fell in the face. At this point, NASA found stopping things from flying around in space capsules to be extremely useful. The rest is history. VELCRO isn't really a product, it's a company name. Some fiction and fact from Bob's Almanac. Now to the product. Unfortunately, I am tied to an electric wheelchair. Nevertheless, I like to pursue my hobby. Photography was my major in college and when I graduated I had a Master of Fine Arts degree in Photography. I soon made some wise decisions and happily made a name for myself in the industry. I don't know anything about videos. A few miles away lives a videographer who was in college at the same time as I was. Not close friends, but buddies, you could say. I needed his help. I want to mount a couple or three action cameras on my wheelchair. Since I was tied to the chair, most of my friends have left. I'm sure it's because they don't really know how to react to a bowel movement. I want to record my everyday life digitally on a chair. I don't want my friends to change, except maybe my size. While I have a lot of camera accessories that I can attach to my chair, a friend of mine suggested some velcro straps to use in less accessible places for me to mount the camera, cheap camera to be safe. Well done. We attached Velcro near the bottom to hold footage that we could use in the final film I plan to shoot. I've been doing this since I got stripes. They worked so well that I found another use. I go out at night in an armchair. It has a range of thirteen miles and luckily my friends my grocery store drug store pizza place and we can't forget the local tavern. There is no light on the chair. They have a kit for it, but also want to charge close to $300, and that doesn't include the backlight. I have a lot of flashlights at home. A few years ago I bought a set of two DURACELL lights here at Revain. They are very powerful and when tested they come out about six meters and produce a lot of light. They fall beyond the assumed twenty feet in length. They are so light that I taped velcro to the body of the chair and attached the flashlights. It worked so well that I placed a second flashlight on the opposite side of the chair. Here at Revain they have flashing taillights, but I found a good pair at Walmart. I trimmed the velcro patch back down and now I have a backlight. My first evening was a complete success. In addition to the street lights, I had both parking lights and one tail light on. On the way back I met a neighbor who advised me to improve the lighting in the back. He said that in some places there are no sidewalks and more backlighting would be better. He helped me browse his garage and came back with a light bar. He pressed it against the back of my chair and said he was able to put it on correctly. The problem with the pole is that it is not connected to the batteries. He wants to connect it to the chair's battery. I haven't told him I don't want it yet. It also voids my warranty on the chair. So there must be other things I can attach this velcro to. I'll update the review if I find it. This review was written without any financial incentive. I am not receiving a free product or any discounts. All Revain retail sales were paid for. I love writing these product reviews and I really hope you enjoy reading them.
