The hardware does not protect any part of the table; Remaining purchase

If I could give 0 stars, I probably would. I bought this desk because I was looking for an inexpensive table to put my coffee or drinks on while I work at my computer desk (I wanted something separate so it wouldn't be next to the devices on my desk). I knew the table would probably look cheap in terms of quality, but I didn't need anything super expensive. The instructions were very simple, but when I started assembling the table, I encountered many problems. The biggest problem is that the large/long screws that come with the table are NOT LONG ENOUGH to attach the smaller oval plate in the center of the unit. They barely protrude from the holes at the other end, so tightening the screws does next to nothing. In addition, the table top should be attached to the base with small dowel rods. But this was not the case. The legs wouldn't lock even when I tried to pound them. When I tried to push on the top to slide the dowel rods into the holes, one of the legs popped out and the whole table collapsed. I ended up thinking I'd fixed the table only to have something - a book - placed on it at the wrong angle. The table tilted a little, one of the legs jumped out, and the table collapsed again. I have already contacted the manufacturer to ask for new hardware as this is the biggest issue with this table. If the hardware protecting the table worked as intended, I would have no problem with this table. In addition, one of the legs was damaged, some of the paint had peeled off.
