This works when the material is very thick. Doesn't work on clothing. You need a sledgehammer and you have to be very strong to hit it. The grommets are very strong/solid which is good if you are using them on a tarp or banner. For the best result, I put a block of wood on a concrete floor, otherwise you'll ruin your table. You either need a proper sturdy workbench or a garage floor/sidewalk. I had to hit the hole punch several times with a sledgehammer on a block of wood to make a hole. Then hit the loop sitting on the base very hard and many times so that it bends (closes). Then remove the grommet from the base and hit the wood directly with a sledgehammer to flatten it. They beat me and my back hurt. There were no instructions included. I used it for a banner and will update it in a few months to let you know how they held up. It looks like it will hold up well.
