I have an old Technics receiver that supports 5.1 Dolby and DTS. It was made before HDMI was available, so it doesn't have HDMI inputs/thru ports. It has two TOSS and one digital input. That sucks because it's older technology and most audio/video devices only use HDMI. I have a Roku 1 and a Blu-ray player that only have an HDMI output. They connect perfectly to my TV, but the TV doesn't play Dolby or DTS, just stereo. I read about them and decided to give it a try. I use HDMI passthrough and then run TOSS on my receiver. At first I wasn't sure if it would work, but after turning on Revain Prime Video on my Roku, my receiver automatically switched to Dolby and DTS mode depending on what was being played. I connected the same device to my Blu-Ray player and got the same results. I've checked all the speakers to make sure I'm really getting a different sound through them, and I actually am. I am ordering a second one as I will be using one with my Roku and the others with my Blu-Ray, by connecting them to the two TOSS inputs on the back of my receiver.
