Poor color variation

In my opinion this cat scratcher is of very poor quality at this price. When the cat scratcher arrived it had a strong synthetic smell right out of the box. The smell has dissipated a bit in the last few hours, but not completely gone. This is a factor that can be overlooked unless your cats are particularly bothered by new and unusual smells. However, the construction and design was not that easy to overlook. I started by removing the base for the cat scratching post. There were no visible holes at the top for screws to screw through. I turned the base over to find the pre-drilled holes in the chipboard with the thinnest layer of carpet you need to rip open and screw through. Luckily the carpet was thin enough that minimal effort was required. But what does this rug say about the quality my cat's claws must pierce? Indoor and outdoor carpets are more durable than this rug. It looks like a cheap fluffy Joanna fabric, not an actual rug. This brings me now to how the carpet and sisal were very tactlessly glued to the cardboard and chipboard of the cat scratching post. Clumps of glue everywhere. This can be partially removed with scissors, but that's a lot of extra work for a brand new item. Which when it's not on sale is $69.99, and even on sale it's still in the low $50 range! Overall I would give this product 2 stars. Because the hardware, color variation, and quality are poor, and a cat scratch doesn't last long. I will say that most likely I will not be returning this item because my daughter really wants to keep it for her room. despite poor quality. There really aren't many cat tree products on the market today that are designed like this and I'm hoping that this company can either improve the quality of their products, lower the price, or create another brand niche. the market for the better for cute cat scratching posts. As a side note, the seller made a free cat wand. Which would be nice if the cat scratching post wasn't so terrible.
