I usually wear a size 6 with jeans or a size 8 with pants or skirts. First I took these medium size shorts and they turned out to be too big. They arched ugly at the hips and then went down. I sent them back and ordered the shorts in a small size and they fit perfectly with room left in them. They're comfortable and water-resistant, and my phone fits best in a zip pocket. I like having my phone handy to take photos, it's great. The length is also perfect, not dated like most hiking shorts. I've also tried 5 inch shorts and the small ones are tighter than these, I'll probably get medium ones in them. Sometimes I like to linger a bit when sitting on the floor to keep mud from sticking to my feet, but I love the short 3.5 inches.
