Cute but not particularly useful

I have been baking sourdough bread at home for a long time. I always have a snack in the fridge and I bake a variety of free-form breads. From this point of view I see no reason to recommend this set. Often a sourdough starter kit will actually contain some dry sourdough to get you started. Not here. You get a container, a spatula, a thermometer and some labels with a marker. The lid of the container is finished in a modern pastel green color which makes it attractive. And all packed in a gift box. The straight sides are helpful as you can easily see when your appetizer has doubled. But the sides aren't calibrated so you'll have to rely on your eyes or make your own markings on the side of the container. And the container is significantly larger than the one I currently use. This is not an advantage. Takes up a lot of space in the fridge. I would convert it into a proofer for my actual bread dough, except it's not big enough for that. Thus, it turns out to be too big for its intended purpose and too small for other uses. Tall, narrow containers have another disadvantage, especially when working with wet dough. You get your knuckles in that stuff. The supplied spatula doesn't help either. Yes, it has flat edges so you can scrape the edges to mix in the flour. But that's not enough to keep your hands off the container. The thermometer has a Celsius and Fahrenheit scale, which is nice. But I don't use a thermometer. My snack is either in the fridge waiting for me to make the dough or on the counter waking up at room temperature. Only my dough always ends up in the proofing box (actually my oven is on "proofing"). Labels and markers are cute. I don't use them either. In general, not knowing what else to buy is like a gift. And so it is more likely to be given as a gift than liked. However, it will leave you off the hook. โ€” I heard you like to bake bread, so here it is. "Oh. Um. Thanks?"
