I ordered this pillow because I have a neck problem and need a neck support when sitting in a high back seat or airplane seat. So I hoped this pillow would be the answer when I flew. I don't like the traditional U-shaped pillows that most people use on airplanes because I don't like the way they wrap around my neck. I thought maybe I could partially inflate this pillow and that would give some sort of custom made stiffness support just for my neck. The cushion is inflated as described in the description by turning the valve. You can also partially inflate it and close the valve to control its stiffness. However, this pillow contains quite a bit of lumpy filling and about 3/4 of it is at one end, which means that when partially inflated, one end of the pillow is much thicker than the other and your head will roll. towards the end with less padding. So if you plan to use this pillow fully inflated all the time, that's fine. Otherwise it's a disaster. i give it back
