This cat bed was purchased to help an elderly cat get through the winter more comfortably while the house is much cooler. It was only two weeks before the cat left a frayed shirt and a sprinkling of catnip to claim the bed for itself. I consider it quite successful. This is a thirteen-pound, relatively compact cat (not a lanky breed like the Maine Coon), and he fits comfortably with plenty of room. Even when the weather warms up, he still sleeps in it most nights and sometimes likes to sit with his head in to see what's going on. I find the assurance that my cat has a soft, very warm bed worth every penny to ward off the winter chill or even avoid the awkward turning on of the air conditioner.
