Last year my cats got fleas. I've tried everything from boric acid to diatomaceous earth, from flea collars and cheap flea candies to washing in dish soap every few days at dawn and vacuuming 2-3 times a day and NOTHING has worked. A friend of mine recommended this shampoo to me and at that point one of my cats developed a severe allergic reaction to fleas and all I could do was cry because I couldn't help him. He honestly looked like he'd been thrown in a dog pit. When my friend told me about it, I bought it immediately. At that point I was ready to try anything and I'm so glad I did. No, it didn't cure our flea problem. I did not expect this. However, it has helped my cats get rid of the constant biting and itching. It helped heal some of my allergic cat's ulcers (very quickly I might add, I was incredibly surprised at how quickly they healed) and he was able to regrow some of his fur. After the bath he had several hours of complete comfort and itching for the rest of the day, but he was actually able to get some rest. As for the actual effectiveness of the product, hundreds of dead fleas sank to the bottom of the tub and hundreds more came out of the flea comb. When I bathed my cats, I turned on the music and brushed them for 3 songs, about 10-15 minutes depending on the song played. Then I carefully combed the cats and rinsed the fleas in the tub with water, since it was full of soap at the time and the live fleas would inevitably drown. I don't want them swallowing so much soap that they get sick. At first I was scared because I thought one of my cats was bleeding. The blood dissolved in the water and I thought he had ulcers, which the soap irritated and caused bleeding. I later found out it was just flea dirt on his back. To my relief, none of my cats had any side effects to this shampoo. Even my sensitive cat responded well; his flushed, irritated skin turned slightly pink, which was the opposite of what I was expecting. This is not prevention and will only kill fleas that are currently on your pets. With that in mind, when I was finally able to get them some good flea drops, I prewashed them with this product and let them dry completely. It seems to work in combination with Flea Drops, although my house is still infested, so I'll keep vacuuming and treating the house. I am pleased to report that the combination of shampoo and flea drops has made my cat free of fleas for the first time in just over a year. It is so nice to see that it lies comfortably without itching and it is even better to comb it and have NO fleas on the comb. Yes, YES, I would recommend it to everyone. And I'll never go without again.
