We bought this quilt helmet for our 10 month old son who has been trying to climb everything lately and we have hardwood floors. I thought she needed a helmet because she decided to drive into our kitchen, grab a snack from her shelf and for some reason thought she could just turn around and run away with it. Obviously that shouldn't have happened. My husband and I were making dinner and he literally dove through the kitchen floor and caught her just before she hit her head on the floor. Thank God, because she fell like a tree falling in a forest. At that point I stopped cooking dinner and searched the Amazon for a helmet because she'd hit her head too many times for our liking. We received the helmet fairly quickly and I tried it on her as soon as I received it. It's just too big for her head right now, even in the tightest position. It fits, but it will also catch her eye a bit, making it difficult for her to see. I'm sure he'll be better in a month. Even though it's a bit big, we still use it when we can't fully focus on her. The first time I put it on she starts to win and tries to take it off so I tell her no and just keep it on my head for a few seconds and she ends up not taking it off. When we first received it, she literally fell and banged her head within the first 5 minutes of wearing it. As she fell, she lay down and started crying for about half a second, and then realizing it didn't hurt, she got up and went on her merry way. My daughter is one of those little ones who will hold her breath when she's really upset. and it scares us to death because it seems like she's going to hold her breath for a very long time before finally starting to cry. This helmet works great and does what it's supposed to. Our pediatrician doesn't think she needs it and said kids will fall and hit their heads and as long as it's not high she'll be fine. He really feels like we are acting ridiculous when she wears a helmet but I don't want my baby to get hurt and she's crying in the most heartbreaking way. Her crying will make other people cry, so if there's anything I can do to prevent her from getting hurt, even if it's minor, then I don't care who thinks we're making a fool of ourselves. The only thing I don't like are ties. as our pediatrician rightly pointed out when he told us that she could choke if the strings get caught on anything. If she's wearing a helmet, I don't tie it under my chin. Instead, I just twist them together and tuck the ties into the helmet so they don't get in the way. My husband thought the helmet would come off her head if she fell and hit the ground if it wasn't tied down because the helmet was loose, but that wasn't the case. Even without bindings, the helmet stays on your head. The padding is thick enough not to hurt it. All in all it was a good purchase and I would definitely recommend it, especially if like us you have hardwood floors.
