Review on πŸ”Š ELAC Debut 2.0 F6.2 Floorstanding Speaker in Black (Each) by Stacey Vang

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Sounds very good on a 7.1 system

My Onkyo HT-RC260 AV receiver is easy to set up. I can immediately switch from a stereo system with just ELAC floorstanding speakers to all 7.1 speakers. With the stereo playing only ELAC speakers, the sound was good but not great. Adding additional speakers made a huge difference as they provided a sense of space and realism while still handling the human voice very well. For a while I was a bit disappointed hearing large orchestras because the sound was muddy until I realized the crossovers weren't set up properly and the extra speakers needed to be cranked up. After a lot of tinkering with the Onkyo I got a nice convincing sound for big orchestral classics. However, the rendition of the piano is imprecise and not entirely correct - if you close your eyes, you don't get the feeling that there is a real piano in the room. But jazz plays beautifully and creates a strong feeling of being in a room with a band. That's the blues. And modern pop music sounds very good. A caveat to this review. Maybe the ELAC loudspeakers would have sounded much better with a better amplifier. My Onkyo is clearly mid-range, not high-end. I bought these speakers to replace the much cheaper Sony SS-F6000 four-way floorstanding speakers. $150 7 years ago hoping to improve the sound significantly. The update didn't make much of a difference. Maybe I would say it differently if I played at high volume. Or if I had a better amp.
