Update: Now that I've had the pack for 4 months with almost daily use I have a few comments. First, I still carry backpack because of its simplicity and lightness. Sometimes I stuff my bag in a small bag and stuff the whole thing in my bike jacket pocket until I get to the grocery store. Or I pack 5 heavy library books in my backpack to return the books, then stuff the empty backpack in my bag and go home. It's so convenient. Remember that all this is no more than 20 km away. Second, as for washing, I've already washed it 3 times. It got dirty from my daily use, once it had some bike chain grease and once it had a huge oil stain from the takeout I was carrying. I treat the fabric with a stain remover and put the backpack in a laundry bag (for delicate fabrics) and throw it in the washing machine with all the other clothes on the gentle cycle. Then I hang to dry. It looks like new. Do I need a laundry net, I'm not sure. I just didn't want the belts to get chewed up in my washing machine. First Review: For those considering this product, I think the first thing you should do is know what you are using this pack for. This isn't the heavy pack you'd take on a multi-day bush trek. This isn't the type of backpack that has the structure to keep it in shape without being completely stuffed. There is no waist or chest strap to keep the pack from falling off your shoulders if you sway too much. Well that's not the case, you might be wondering what this backpack is for. It is ideal for travel when you need a backpack as it is very light and compact. Also suitable for a quick lap around the block. I bought this to store my work clothes/shoes so I can put my bag in the boot of my bike. If the backpack has too much structure or too much padding in the straps, it won't fit in my pannier. This bag is perfect for short distances between the bike room, shower room and office with clothes/shoes. I don't want to take my pannier off my bike every day when it's wet/dirty after a ride. The thin material and light weight of this bag is just perfect for my needs. So while people will criticize a product for something it is NOT, please think about your needs before you buy it.
