We actually used this to replace a spot where a cat had scratched another bare post. We liked its flexibility as well as its strength. We found others to be either too brittle or too stiff. Cut off the part that goes behind the furniture. (Note: This is a great design, it just didn't work for our purpose.) We then stapled the scratching post to the other tree. Voila! It worked great.
