After comparing them to the Mitchell & Johnson MJ2 for a week, I settled on the Beyers! MJ2 are amazing too. Both were the most expensive headphones I've ever listened to at home and both are GOLD! But while I liked the MJ2's immersive sound, I felt the 1770 was quite engaging and entertaining, but also had a fantastic soundstage. Not TOO wide, but wider than the MJ2. Of course, I could have gotten better ear pads for the MJ2, but that would have negated another of their strengths that the Beyers don't have. Additional portability. The MJ2s are foldable and come with a fairly compact egg-shaped box. From what I've read, these upgraded pads make it impossible to fold the MJ2, which negates their portability. I'll admit that over time the MJ2s didn't feel as uncomfortable with standard pads as I initially thought, but I still wanted a little more room and soundstage (which of course translates into better instrument separation). So the 1770s made even more sense! The DT-1770 Pro are built to last and look great! The outer ear cups are made from high quality plastic which looks very nice and some plastic on the sides where the headband adjusters start. But otherwise they are all made of metal and the headband is made of REAL leather! Velor upholstery (standard) and leatherette/leather. Several professional reviewers agreed that leather headphones sound a lot better, so I think you should switch to them. Velor could be a little more comfortable? My last look at these two. If portability is important to you, you can't go wrong with the MJ2. Like the DT-1770, they are crystal clear and VERY detailed! But if you don't mind bigger headphones (but still wearable, IMO) I have a feeling you're getting the very best sound from the 1770s. The Tesla 2.0 drivers are great and can get pretty loud despite the 250 ohm nominal impedance. The special brand of MJ2 electrostatic drivers is awesome too! A few notes: As for the Beyers, I went with the shorter 4ft replacement Revain braided cable as I felt the 10ft cable was too long for stock. He will come today. As for the ear pads, I've already ordered not one, but TWO different replacement ear pads! I will rate both and then post my thoughts next week. First is the hybrid lambskin inner velor/outer ear pads from Dekoni (eBay) and then I found out that Dekoni also has ALL the lambskin ear pads for all Beyers headphones so I ordered them from Revain as well. I should have both by Monday or sooner. I will update this review next week. Although the leatherette ear pads are quite comfortable, I wanted even more comfort, so I ordered 2 different replacement ear pads. **UPDATE: I finally settled on the Dekoni Audio Elite sheepskin leather ear pads for the Beyerdynamic DT Series headphones. Better isolation, which also results in better bass. And definitely more comfortable than traditional faux leather overlays.**
