It's thicker than I'd like and my laptop sticks out more off the table than I wanted, but it's still better than no fan and I'll keep using it. I don't need those stupid blue lights, but my laptop covers them. The noise is coming from the cooling pad fans and I set the speed control to the lowest setting to reduce the fan noise. However, this cooler's fans are quieter than my laptop's CPU fans when the CPU fans run at high speed, so the net gain is better than before. I have found that with the fans on (even at the lowest fan speed) the laptop is noticeably cooler than before. I have this primarily to reduce the laptop's CPU fan speed to its fastest (and loudest) setting, but it's also good for keeping temperatures down to conserve laptop battery life. I am using this on a 2019 HP ENVY 2-in-1 17 inch convertible laptop.
