We like the chain but it's too small

Received as an anniversary present for my husband. cross necklace. Recently he tried to put it on and it's too small. He can't close it. I didn't know I ordered 16 inch. I later ordered a 30 inch chain before realizing that the cross couldn't detach from the chain. We both like it, but it's too small for his neck.
