I am over the moon with these shelves. I used an existing rope hook and a weird four prong hook meant for braiding. The nails are fairly loose (easy to bend) on the 4-tier hook, but I sacrificed the first and successfully made the second with a stepladder. Depending on the weight distribution on the shelf, you will most likely need to adjust the string alignment. I hung one of these straight, then placed a heavy potted plant on one side and a light frame on the opposite side and had to reposition the macrame on the straight pole. In general they look great, I do not regret the purchase. They could be a little "fuller" with weaving, but that's just wishful thinking. They look great in my boho/modern living room.
