Review on πŸƒ 12 ounce bottle of THAYERS Original Witch Hazel Astringent with Aloe Vera by Kate Moon

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good for what it is

"Thayers Witch Hazel" has been around for a long time and is a great product for what it's intended for - a moisturizing skin toner. It has a very light smell, clean and refreshing, tones and tightens the skin. It is also an astringent in addition to the alcohol base of this particular product and therefore has some mild antibacterial properties. And it contains some witch hazel extract, the fourth ingredient. It's great as a standalone aftershave or as a soothing lotion for irritated skin. Lots of natural ingredients, so no mysterious chemicals. And Thayers comes in a dizzying array of flavors and varieties - lavender, cucumber, lemon, rose, astringent pads, mouth spray, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, to name a few. So, 5 stars for a great all-purpose skin tonic, antiseptic and aftershave. What it's not: It's certainly not witch hazel. In fact, "Hamamelis" isn't a commercial product unless you're referring to the Hamamelis Virginiana plant. Many cosmetic products, including this one, contain witch hazel extract, which is obtained by distilling the leaves, twigs, and bark of witch hazel in an alcohol solution, resulting in a (typically) around 14% alcohol-water solution containing essential oils and organic substances from witch hazel. . Factory. There is no such thing as "pure" witch hazel unless you mean the extract or the plant itself. This Thayers product contains witch hazel extract in a 10% alcohol solution along with 5 other ingredients, mainly fragrance and moisturizers. While it's fine as a lotion on its own or as an aftershave, it's not ideal to wear under anything else - due to these added ingredients, it leaves a sticky film on your skin, especially under another lotion or aftershave. Good for moisturizing but not for stacking with other moisturizers. There is another product that is simply witch hazel extract - Dickinsons, which contains only organic witch hazel in a 14% alcohol solution that dries on your skin and leaves nothing behind. works well as a cooling, astringent spray to apply before using another aftershave or moisturizer, or if you don't like the sticky feeling Thayers leaves behind. But Thayers is an all-rounder that's hard to beat if you just want to splash around and get away. highlighted.
